Oscar Bustamante

Oscar Bustamante is originally from Peru and proudly calls Staten Island, New York, home. His journey as an educator began in 2021, when he completed his student-teaching experience remotely at the Urban Assembly School for Leadership and Empowerment (UASLE). He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Adolescence Education with a concentration in Spanish (Grades 9–12) from the College of Staten Island, followed by a master’s degree in Spanish Education for secondary schools from the City College of New York in June 2025.

Oscar has been teaching Spanish to 10th- and 11th-grade students at UASLE since earning his bachelor’s degree. He is passionate about sharing the richness and diversity of Hispanic cultures with his students and believes that learning a language is also a wonderful way to discover new cultures, traditions, and perspectives.

Outside the classroom, Oscar enjoys reading, traveling, and photography. His favorite food is cebiche, a traditional Peruvian dish made with fresh fish.

What Oscar enjoys most about teaching is the opportunity to connect with his students and be part of their learning journey. He feels fortunate to work with such wonderful students and dedicated colleagues, and he is proud to be part of the UASLE community.
